A Korean indie drama that follows two young girls who are left by their mother (who goes searching for their estranged father). The girls are sent to live with various, incompetent relatives such as an alcoholic aunt and out on the farm with their grandparents. Writer/Director So Yong Kim does an excellent job of establishing intimacy by using a lot of close up shots on the faces of the two very expressive young actors. Though this film is obviously shot on a low budget, it has excellent cinematography, thanks to Kim's sharply focused aesthetic vision.

My initial thoughts when I heard about this movie was that it would be an overly sentimental tear-jerker, but that turned out not to be the case at all. In fact, if there is a knock on this film, it may be that it lacks strong enough conflict to really resonate. However, to me the movie is a lot like the song used in the its trailer, "Layers" by Asobi Seksu - it's beauty comes from its understatement.

OMG!!! I just downloaded the ‘Love Blood Kryptonite’ pre-release from the web!! It was so easy to download and I LOVE it!! Written and directed by a group of 40 high school students, this is truly an indie film.

Synopsis: “Teenager Jimmy Donovan struggles to survive in a household with a drug-addicted mother and a six-year-old sister, Angie, by selling marijuana in a diverse, suburban neighborhood. . . His struggle to stay afloat is filled with numerous problems, all of which surround his world in what he calls 'kryptonite.'” **Matt Mitchener who wrote, co-directed and edited the film was only a Junior in High School at the time of production. He is now a screenwriting student at NYU.

I found it at www.zipidee.com/LoveBloodKryptonite, but I'm pretty sure you can get it from this widget too. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!!

Hey there, I'm a Canuck gal and an amateur movie buff who doesn't have enough time or money to support her habit of choice...and I'm a newbie in the LJ communities... I actually joined to get real movie buffs' opinions on the films I want to see, and partake in discussions if they happen. Since I don't know how to do any fancy LJ posting stuff, I hope you don't mind if I just link to these two entries I made in my journal about movies I'm looking forward to seeing or have questions about:

Summer Movie List ~ part 1, I'm sure; just a list of movies, with Youtube trailer links+embed, that I'm looking forward to watching...

Mad About Movies ~ when I was panning at Youtube, I found these other trailers and was curious...

Looking forward to your opinions, thanks! Ciao~~~

(P.S. If this is incorrect protocol here, please let me know and I'll delete this entry.)

Be Kind Rewind is a sweet, funny, cockle-warming movie sure to make you smile long after you’ve left the theater.

I hope this is allowed. I created an RP revolving around directors and promoting it in RP promotion communities doesn't seem to work, since no one on them has heard of any directors, so I thought I'd go to sites for people who know something about movies. The community is the_crf and it's just a faux celebrity RP revolving around directors. Lots of good ones are available.

Michael Clayton is the fast paced legal, corporate greed and assassination thriller that starts and ends with a bang.  Michael Clayton sizzles with skin crawling gluttony, blood moving action and overflows with tragic characters. Michael Clayton Boom Boom ReviewCollapse )
